Navy Seal Describes Ill-Fated Taliban Fight

23 October 2007

If you haven’t read Lone Survivor, by Marcus Luttrell, I would highly recommend it. It’s a great story of some true American heroes, and the community that they belong to. I’m glad to see that “Murph” is getting the recognition that he deserves, and I’d like to see Marcus get the book sales he deserves as well for telling their incredible story. Here is a bit more info on the book:

ABC News: Navy Seal Describes Ill-Fated Taliban Fight
Just an hour after releasing three goat herders who stumbled upon their hideout in the Afghan mountains, Marcus Luttrell and his three fellow Navy Seals were battling Taliban fighters in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, in June 2005. Luttrell was convinced its was the herders who revealed their position to the Taliban.
The seals came under heavy RPG fire and Seal Danny Dietz was shot. Team leader Michael Murphy was running out of options.

So begins chapter 7 of “Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and The Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10,” by Marcus Luttrell with Patrick Robinson, published by Little, Brown & Company and excerpted below.

It’s a relatively quick read and packed full of action and heart warming insights into the mind of the non-Taliban Afghan people and their culture. Check it out!
